Joachim Probst was a self taught artist who was born New York in 1913. During the 1960s he achieved minor recognition and created some controversy by painting religious themes, an uncommon subject during the heyday of abstract expressionism.

- extensive mold covers entire painting, front and verso; major accretion, craquelure, actively flaking paint; large puncture to lower left quadrant; discoloration, cracking, and wear to frame; piece emits musty odor.
