Item Details

A model 1862 Joslyn breech loading, rimfire carbine, .52 caliber, Civil War era rifle. The Joslyn was loaded by pivoting the breech block on a hinge, secured by a friction latch with a hook tab on the 1862 model, later production employed a spring pull latch. Standard features include a walnut stock, brass contoured butt plate, brass trigger guard, single brass barrel band, two leaf hinged sight, saddle bar and riding ring on left side, six lands & grooves. Manufactured by Joslyn Fire Arms Company, Stonington, Connecticut. Marked on the lock: ‘JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO. / STONINGTON / CONN. Breech door is marked ’B. F. JOSLYN’S PATENT / OCTOBER 8TH 1861 / JUNE 24TH 1862’, and serial number. Cartouche on the wood on the left side indicate government inspection, additional inspector marks on sight and trigger guard. Barrel length 22in.
