Shaw is best known for his striking black and white woodblocks focusing on the unsettling and hidden sides of urban life, demonstrating a potent representation of marginalized groups of society. He received his formal artistic training in his hometown at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where he would later mentor and inspire new generations of artists. Shaw’s oeuvre has been exhibited in various prestigious institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center, and the Taft Museum of Art.
