An 18K Rolex ‘Padellone’ Triple Date Moon Phase wristwatch. Rolex is the most respected watch company and is known for its many innovations and aesthetic designs, their watches are called iconic, timeless and the watch of reference but the Rolex ’ Padellone’ sets its own path. The ‘Padellone’ (Italian for large frying pan) is considered, amongst collectors, to be one of the most collectible watches of all time. The 8171 is a rare timepiece having been produced for a few years from 1949 to 1952 and this watch is thought to be one of only a thousand created as well as being considered one of the most complicated Rolex ever produced. The Padellone features an 18K yellow gold bezel set around a dial with a day and month window at the twelve mark, an arrow hand that points to the calendar on the edge of the dial, and a Moon Phase indicator at the six mark. The dial is set on a large automatic movement especially created for the 8171 and what was termed a harmonious case with sharp edges, facets, and angles and the timepiece is displayed on a (non-Rolex) leather bracelet that has a gold-tone buckle clasp.
