Harry Oshiver was born into a Jewish family in Moscow, and emigrated to Philadelphia in 1891. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts among artists such as Hugh Breckenridge and Daniel Garber. Oshiver won two Cresson scholarships to study painting in Europe. Upon his return, Oshiver moved towards printmaking and lithography, working in the typography, design and layout departments of the Ketterlinus Lithographic Manufacturing Company, Philadelphia until he opened his own studio, the Oshiver Studio Press.

Condition

- puncture and 2.5" tear to the canvas to the upper left; patches to the verso with overpainting to the recto; scattered cracks to the painting; warping to patch to the center; scratches, discoloration, and stains to the frame.
