Arthur Ivone, born in Felitto, Italy, was known for his military memorial sculptures. From a young age, he worked in various sculptural media and even created his own small kiln for clay figures. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and the Institute of Fine Arts in Rome. In 1914, he emigrated to the United States and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio where he took night classes at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He participated in a number of notable exhibitions and won several awards for his work. Some of his monumental pieces remain in public spaces today, including a Stephen Foster monument in Eden Park in Cincinnati, The Remembrancer fountain sculpture at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, and the World War I memorial Doughboy at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
