Rococo-Revival Balloon-Back Chair

A Rococo-Revival rosewood balloon-back chair, circa 1860 with typical finger molding of the Rococo style. A handsome piece with low-lying form, its sprung seat and elegant shaped back is upholstered in a claret red cross stitch fabric, accented with brass tack ornamentation. The balloon back is framed with molded foliage, upholstered to back with a coordinating velvet fabric; also accented with brass tack ornamentation. To bottom, floral molded knees flow into a carved apron, and cabriole legs with acanthus carving, terminating in a whorl shaped foot.
Condition
- considering its age and use. The fabric is in fair condition. Fabric on arm rests is worn and would require attention, a hole is evident to seat.
