Edward Timothy Hurley was an accomplished painter, printer, illustrator, and author, perhaps best known for his work with the Rookwood Pottery Company. Born in Cincinnati, Hurley would later graduate from Xavier University and the Cincinnati Art Academy. He was a designer for Rookwood Pottery Company from 1896-1948, creating paintings on both canvas and pottery. Cincinnati scenes had a stronghold on Hurley’s work and were his most prominent subject matter. His works have been exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Art Institute of Chicago, the St. Louis World’s Fair (1904), and more.
Condition
- toning to paper with minor burns and discoloration to the sight edges; yellowed varnish stain to the lower center; minor impressions to the paper to the left of stain; graphite inscription along lower sight edge; negligible abrasions to the frame.
