Ancient Biblical ‘Shekel of Tyre’ Silver Coin of Phoenicia, Tyre, ca. 40 A.D. This coin is allegedly the type that Judas Iscariot used to betray Jesus in the Bible. Obverse: Laureate bust of Melkart right. Reverse: TYΡOY IEΡAΣ KAI AΣYΛOY, eagle standing left on prow. Metal Content: silver. Diameter: 29 mm. Weight: 14 grams. Coin is lightly circulated, well-centered, with toning on reverse. Old mount remnant at 3 o’clock on reverse. Reference HGC 10.
