Vintage Charlie McCarthy Ventriloquist Doll

Item Details

A vintage Charlie McCarthy style pull-string composition doll with box. Features head and white painted ‘gloved’ hands of composition, with a soft torso, arms, and legs. His composition head has facial features consisting of painted hair, painted eyebrows and side-glancing fixed eyes, and painted red lips. His mouth is attached to a string at back of neck. This doll is wearing a black tuxedo with a white shirt, and black boots, and comes with a black felt top hat. His shoes are faux black cloth boots with board soles. The box included is original, in poor condition, with torn pieces and missing end. Charlie McCarthy was the ventriloquist’s dummy used by Edgar Bergen from the 1930s.

- the head has some chipped paint and crazing, the shirt is yellowed, box is in poor condition, the string, while still attached to mouth, has not been tested for original use – best to preview for best sense of condition
