Kelsey Murphy Pilgrim Cameo Glass Vase, Late 20th Century
Item Details
Known for her beautiful and detailed cameo glass work, Kelsey Murphy designs many different styles of cameo and carved glass vases, bowls, lamps and more. Each of Kelsey’s designs are created from an original pencil drawing and the design is then fully developed for glass before being carefully carved using a detailed sandblasting technique. Born and raised in Ohio, Kelsey developed her signature technique after she accidentally etched into a mirror while sandblasting to remove paint from an old medicine cabinet. After refining her techniques with the help of her partner and former aerospace machinist Bob Bomkamp, the pair joined with the Pilgrim Glass Corporation in Ceredo, West Virginia. Kelsey created cameo glass pieces for clients such as Dustin Hoffman and Bill and Hillary Clinton, and her work is housed in the Huntington Museum of Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Broadfield House Museum in England, and more, as well as numerous private collections.
