American artist Howard Fogg was famous for his dramatic paintings of trains, rendered in exacting detail. He grew up in Illinois, and developed his love of trains through his father, a VP of Litchfield & Madison Railroad. Fogg graduated from Dartmouth College, and the went on to study at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After serving in WWII as a fighter pilot, he was hired as the staff artist for the American Locomotive Company. In 1955, Fogg moved with his family to Boulder, Colorado, where he painted images for Leanin’Tree Publishing greeting cards.
