Aimé Perret was best known for his softly lit Barbizon School landscapes, often depicting figures working or in repose in the fields. He studied under Joseph Antoine Vollon, Puvis de Chavanne, and Benoit Guichard at l’École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, and is said to have been an influence of Vincent Van Gogh. He showed his work in Lyon and frequently participated in exhibitions at the Paris Salon from 1869 and forward. He was also a founder of the Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His works are represented in the collections of many prestigious French museums and private collections throughout the globe.

- heavy craquelure present throughout painting; impact craquelure present to lower left of painting; dust and accretions present to painting and frame; small losses of frame to center edge; cracking to edges of frame; slight billow to canvas; surface wear present to painting; toning to varnish.
