James Hyde is an American abstract artist that creates work using a variety of mixed media and sculptural forms, including painting, photography, fresco, styrofoam, vinyl, glass, assemblage, and more. Hyde was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, studied at the University of Rochester from 1975-77, and has lived and worked out of New York City since the 1980’s. He has received numerous awards, including the New York State CAPS Grant in 1982, the Joan-Mitchell Foundation Fellowship in 2000, and the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 2008; his work is held in New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum, with gallery representation and across the United States and Europe.
