Born in Massachusetts, Mary Hazelton attended the Museum School in Boston and studied with Edmund Tarbell, Joseph De Camp and Frank Benson. In a male-dominated scene, she was a pioneer for women artists. She was one of the first female members of the prestigious Boston Guild of Artists, and a founding member and officer of Wellesley Society of Artists. Hazelton’s works are represented in the collections of numerous prestigious institutions, including the Peabody Essex Museum, Harvard University, the Massachusetts State House; Wellesley Free Library and The Wellesley Historical Society, as well as in private collections.
