Born in Boston, Irwin D. Hoffman was an American painter, sculpture, and printmaker. He studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School where he was awarded the Paige Traveling Scholarship, allowing him to study painting in Europe. After his return, he was based in New York, and Hoffman often traveled with his brothers’ mining company in the American Southwest, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, which provided subjects for many of his works. His work has been collected by numerous institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, among others.

- discoloration to varnish layer; accretion to surface; craquelure throughout; some scattered flaked paint loss; wear to frame includes cracked and flaking finish, cracks to molding, and some chipped and lost molding pieces.
