Johann Jakob Biedermann was a Swiss painter and etcher born in Winterthur, and he studied drawing there under Johann Rudolph Schellenberg, and later under landscape and animal painter Heinrich Rieter in Bern. Settling in Konstanz, Germany, he worked professionally as an illustrator and portrait painter, as well as traveling extensively throughout Europe painting pastoral landscapes.
Condition
- discoloration to painting varnish; accretion to surface; UV light indicates overpainting to upper left quadrant; canvas has been relined; framing tape along canvas edges visible within frame sight; cracks to wood of frame; edge wear to frame with chips to flowers on left side.
