Born in Warren, Ohio in 1860, Addison Thomas Millar was an Impressionist painter and etcher, focusing on portraiture and landscapes. Originally taught by a local artist, Millar furthered his artistic studies at the Art Students League, the Shinnecock School, and the Academie Julian. At the Shinnecock School, he became the pupil of the landscape painter William M. Chase and while in Paris, Millar studied under Boldini, Benjamin Constant, and Henri Martin. Millar was also a prominent member of the Salmagundi Club and Silvermine Artists Guild. His work is featured in various public and private collections including the Detroit Institute of Arts, Library of Congress, New York Public Library, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Condition

- minor scratches, minor craquelure and small areas of loss throughout gesso throughout the frame; under UV light examination minor areas of inpainting are revealed throughout the composition; this canvas has been relined.
