Russell Reeve was an early 20th century British artist known for his vivid paintings of genre scenes, animals, and urban and rural landscapes. Reeve was born in Hethersett, Norfolk in eastern England. He attended Norwich School of Art and trained in architecture at Norwich City Engineer’s Department until the outbreak of World War I. During the war, his talents came to the attention of artists Eric Kennington and William Rothenstein and with their help was admitted to the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal College of Art.
He taught for some time at the Hornsey School of Art and exhibited with the New English Art Club, Royal Society of British Artists, and Royal Academy. His work can be found in many private and public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate Gallery, and the Imperial War Museum.

- cracks and tenting throughout with areas of lifting of loss; areas of inpainting, overpainting, and uneven varnish throughout; finish loss, abrasions, and minor nicks throughout the frame.
