William Malherbe was born just north of Paris in 1884, and is known as a French Post Impressionist artist, even though he spent much of his later life in the Eastern United States. He is known for his colorful figure, still life and outdoor paintings, and was influenced by the later work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir (France, 1841 – 1919). His artistic career was launched in the 1930s when he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne, which led to representation by the famed Parisian gallery Durand-Ruel. Malherbe went on to exhibit at numerous art galleries and museums including the Corcoran Gallery and the Paris Musee d’Art Moderne among others.
