Alexander Levy was born in Bonn, Germany before emigrating to the United States. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck and at the New York School of Fine And Applied Art under Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase. He worked primarily as a commercial artist and illustrator, but also continually exhibited his work in New York galleries and exhibitions notably the Buffalo Society of Artists, Salons of America, and the Albright Gallery. Levy’s works can be found in the collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Burchfield-Penney Art Center, and the Denver Art Museum, among others.
