Charles Daniel Batchelor was a political and editorial cartoonist as well as a sculptor and painter born in Osage City, Kansas. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and began his professional career at the Salina Journal and the Kansas City Star. He moved to New York where he worked as a staff artist and cartoonist at several noted newspapers before becoming the chief editorial cartoonist for the New York Daily News in 1931. In 1937, he won the Pulitzer Prize for best cartoon and several other awards throughout his career. Public collections of his work can be found at the Syracuse University Library, Wichita State University, and Huntington Library in San Marino.
