Richard Pauli was a painter and sculptor, especially known for his Tonalist landscapes and bust sculptures of youths. Born in Chicago, he studied in France for a few years under F.L. Français and sought professional advice from Daubigny. Pauli exhibited his work at the Paris Salon in 1880, the National Academy of Design from 1886 until his death in 1892, and also in Boston from 1888 to 1890.

- heavy craquelure present throughout painting; toning to varnish; minor wear to edges of frame; surface wear present to painting; surface wear present to painting; slight billow to canvas.
