Danish artist Sigurd Wandel studied under Kristian Zahrtmann and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He later continued his studies at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts for a year. He is especially known for his paintings of interior scenes, often exhibiting groups of people engaged in leisurely activities, many of which feature the artist’s friends and family members. In 1920, he was hired as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he also served as the Director from 1940 to 1943.
Condition
- discoloration throughout painting; craquelure to paint; frame rub wear to painting edges; minor overpainting restoration visible under UV light; marks, chips, and scratches throughout frame finish, with nail head and gesso exposed to upper right and lower left corners, as well as edge and corner wear present; period label to verso is discolored and has portions torn away.
