Peter Driben (Massachusetts; 1903 – 1968) was best known for his pin-up illustrations of the 1930s and ’40s, and is regarded as one of the most prolific pin-up artists of his time. His work has been featured on numerous magazine covers, including Real Screen Fun, Gay Book, Silk Stocking Stories, and Movie Merry-Go-Round, as well as a plethora of book covers. In 1944 he became the art director of the New York Sun, where he remained until 1946. During World War II, his famous painting of American soldiers hoisting the flag at Mount Suribachi in Iwo Jima earned him global popularity. Later in his career, he turned to portraiture and fine art to make his living, including a commissioned portrait of Dwight Eisenhower.
