Baldwin Grand Piano
Item Details
A beautiful walnut, well-built Baldwin 6’ 3” grand piano. Model L. Wal., serial #215399. Manufactured in 1976 by the Baldwin Piano Company, Cincinnati. Walnut case. The descriptive information for this item is based on a January 2014 appraisal made by Mr. Jack Krefting of Crestview Hills, KY. The action of the piano shows unusually little wear and tear, especially for a piano of this age. The key bushings, knuckles, hammers and dampers are all in excellent condition. The piano needs regulating and a few minor repairs only. The pedals function well with no noise. The components of the belly are all in very good shape – plate, soundboard, and pinlock. There is a slight amount of surface rust on the strings, especially in upper treble. Bass strings still resonant. No looseness or rattling. Agraffes good. The case is in excellent condition, other than some bleaching from sun exposure on the treble side, and to a lesser extent on the vent side. All solid brass hardware is present and in very good condition. The original bench is missing. Of its overall condition, the appraiser writes: “This instrument was well-made and well cared for, and will provide many years of use before needing major work.” The original, handwritten appraisal will be provided to the winning bidder. The labeling on the inside of the case reads “Grand Prix Paris 1900, Grand Prize St. Louis 1904”.
