Antique Camelback Wooden Steamer Trunk with Metal Banding and Leather Straps

Item Details

An antique camelback steamer trunk with leather straps, leather handles, black metal bands, and a brass lock. Trunk is marked ‘Patented May 1854’ and ‘Philada’ on the lock. Wood appears to be red oak. Intricately incised star designs on the top and front panels are accented with slightly raised borders. Leather straps are still supple, although one is broken at the buckle. The black metal bands have scalloped edges. The body of the trunk is composed of 2’ slats carefully and tightly put together. This trunk is rough and needs some work, but with some restoration, it could once again be as elegant as it was when new.

Condition

Broken leather strap, split corners, missing part of the wood band near the bottom, marks on the wood sides from shipping, lock no longer matches up with the catch, interior is rough and needs cosmetic work, but overall, trunk is sound.
