Beautiful Antique Circa 1880 Solid Oak Globe Furniture Roll Top Desk
Item Details
A beautiful antique circa 1890 solid oak Globe Furniture roll top desk. The craftsmanship of this piece speaks to you as soon as it is seen. It assembles and disassembles in partial knock down style. Few screws are used to secure the pieces. Levers are used to also lock the center drawer when the S-roll top is closed. Front displays the expected Globe brass plate. Open the roll top to reveal a well appointed writing surface with pigeon holes and other organization area. The right side of desk has a pull out writing board and three drawers with bottom a file drawer. The drawer base has a metal bottom, presumably for added security. All sides of this piece are a work of art. In February 9, 1882, the business started as an Ohio corporation named The Globe Files Company with George V. Nauerth as the first President. The company grew and expanded from just paper filing systems to office equipment and officially changed the name to The Globe Company in March 1887. Referenced from The Norwood Historical Society. The original lock is included here but is not installed, else it wants to lock each time the rolltop is pulled shut.
