Considered the leading Burmese artist and a major figure of the Rangoon School, Ngwe Gaing studied under Ba Nyan (Burmese, 1897 – 1945) and Frank Spenlove-Spenlove (English, 1867 – 1933). He was particularly known for introducing Western techniques to Burmese artists, and worked as an illustrator for magazines, book covers, and movie posters. Gaing’s work has been collected by multiple institutions including the National Museum of Myanmar, the Singapore Art Museum, and the (Yangon) Universities Central Library, among others.

- toning to the paper; slight warping to the paper; marks to the mat, with accretion and water damage apparent to lower left; scratches, wear, marks, and abrasions throughout the frame.
