1967 Pete Maravich Game Worn Converse Shoes, Signed Guide and other LSU Items
Item Details
EBTH is honored to present a pair of 1967 Pete Maravich worn basketball shoes from the Dexter Bott estate with other sports memorabilia associated with Louisiana State University. With ironclad provenance, these Pete Maravich’s worn ‘Chuck Taylor’ Converse basketball shoes date to his 1967 freshman year. The basketball shoes are marked ‘F-24’ in black marker under each tongue. ‘24’ was the jersey number given to Pete during his first year at LSU.
Playing for his father Press Maravich at the Louisiana State University, Pete Maravich, nicknamed ‘Pistol Pete,’ revolutionized the game of basketball. A high-flying shooting guard from the state of Pennsylvania, Maravich became one of basketball’s most lethal scorers, averaging an incredible 44.2 points per game. Pete entered the NBA and continued his torrid scoring averaging over 24 points per game. Pete Maravich was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. Tragically, Pete died of heart failure at the young age of 40 in 1988. Dexter Bott, the equipment manager for the basketball team at Louisiana State University, from 1965-1969, received these basketball shoes directly from Maravich.
Also included in this collection are Dexter Bott’s LSU awards, 1968, 1969, and 1970 college annuals, beanie cap, basketball charm, 1967-1971 media guides, souvenir license plates, and other LSU sports collectibles. Accompanying the shoes is a 1969-1970 LSU Basketball media guide signed by Pete Maravich in blue ink pen.
Please note, little if any Pete Maravich worn collegiate pieces have surfaced over the years. These specific basketball shoes are incredibly mentioned on page 322 in the book Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich by Mark Kriegel. Due to this rare and important discovery, these Pete Maravich worn shoes, used by one of the best collegiate players of all-time, are truly worthy of enshrinement into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
