Item Details
Thomas Nast (1840–1902) was a German-born American caricaturist and editorial cartoonist nicknamed the ‘Father of the American Cartoon’. Among his notable works were the creation of the modern version of Santa Claus which was based on the traditional German characters of Sankt Nikolaus and the political symbol of the elephant mascot for the American Republican Party. Thomas Nast was associated with Harper’s Weekly magazines in the mid-late 19th-Century.

- the autograph has received a “visual pass” from a third party authenticator
- the cut is embedded into a display cardboard mount with a copy of one of his political cartoons
