John Henry Witt was an American portrait painter, originally from Indiana. He studied under Joseph Oriel Eaton in Cincinnati, Ohio during the 1850s and eventually opened a studio in Columbus, Ohio, where he was commissioned by several prominent political figures. Witt won the award for best oil painting at the 1865 Ohio State Fair and is listed in Artists in Ohio, 1787-1900: a Biographical Dictionary.
