Charles Constantine Hoffbauer (French/American; 1875 – 1957)

Hoffbauer was best known for his picturesque scenes of Paris and New York, as well as his historical illustrations. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris before leaving to perform his military service. After achieving great success in France and winning several prizes for his paintings, he moved to New York in 1909, where he was aided by famed artist and illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. He also exhibited successfully in the US, forming a long-term relationship with Knoedler Galleries. Hoffbauer continued to have a successful career, receiving commissions to paint murals of historical subject matter and pursue animation, even working for Disney on a Hans Christian Anderson project.
