1861 Civil War Baltimore Riot 6th Regiment Union silver medal. Obverse: ‘Ducit Amor Patriae’ and ‘First In The Field’ within a shield. Reverse: ‘Baltimore 19th of April 1861’ surrounding a wreath, and the monogram of Private Myron J. Newton in the center. This medal was awarded to members of the 6th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, the very first Union Regiment to suffer casualties in the Civil War, during the April 19th, 1861 Baltimore Riot. The 6th Regiment was a peacetime infantry unit that was activated for Federal service in the Union Army three times during the Civil War. Medal is composed of 93% silver. Medal is attached to a blue ribbon, and the pin at the top states ‘Old Sixth.’
