Oil on board by Otto Ferdinand Leiber (German, 1878-1958) of pastoral hillside landscape with flowering trees and small stream. Signed lower left.
Otto Ferdinand Leiber was a painter, sculptor, draftsman, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and Munich. A member of the league of German artists Deutscher Künstlerbund, he specialized in portraits, still lifes, and landscapes – particularly those featuring the Black Forest and winterscapes. Leiber’s work has been collected and exhibited by multiple institutions including the British Museum, the Augustins Museum of Freiburg im Breisgau, and museums in Strasbourg, among others.
Condition
- discoloration to painting; scattered overpainting present throughout, signature appears clean; evidence of repairs to corner joins of frame; scuffs, scratches, and cracking to frame finish, with chipped and missing gesso along left side and to upper corners.
