1880s French Infantry Bayonet with Scabbard
Item Details
A 19th century French infantry bayonet. These bayonets were made for the model 1874 ‘Gras’ Infantry rifle. This has a wood handle with brass pommel and hooked quillon. The blade has a three-edged triangular shape and is marked on the back runner in French script. The engraving on the back refers to the arsenal where the blade was made and what year. This specifically was made in 1879. Complete with scabbard.
Condition
One small rust spot on the quillon. Finish on wood and brash hilt is nearly without blemish considering its age. Makers marks and inscription are very clear.
